PUBG To Fix Broken Server Allocation

While intended to fix several problems, the initial patch has broken things a little more than expected.

PUBG To Fix Broken Server Allocation

Earlier this month PUBG released an update to the game that was supposed to make it so your region or server was decided automatically, rather than by choice. Aimed at reducing server strain and lag, as well as keeping players from other regions where anti-cheat methods are not as stringent away from legitimate players, the update has instead backfired, with multiple reports from players that it is forcing them to play on the wrong regions or failed to work at all.

Heading the call from its player base, PUBG Corp. has made an announcement on their website, promising to fix the problems as soon as possible.

Will the coming fixes be enough to keep PUBG alive?

“The improved system is intended to automatically send players to the region that provides the lowest ping, but unfortunately an error related to ping calculation occurred and the player’s location wasn’t being identified correctly, resulting in them being placed into matches in a region that didn’t provide the optimal gameplay experience,” wrote the company. “Due to the large number of players affected by this issue, the gameplay experience for many players has been impacted negatively and we sincerely apologize for this.”

For now, an initial fix has gone live to help alleviate some of the problems, though PUBG Corp. is still firmly working towards fixing the issues in their entirety. “Within the last 24 hours we deployed an initial fix to prevent players from connecting to the wrong local region. The team is actively working to resolve the remaining issues in a fix we expect to deploy next week, which also includes a change to prioritize matching players with teammates who speak the same language, to improve the player experience.”

Whether this fix comes soon enough to keep PUBG as popular as it once was remains to be seen, as competition for the Battle Royale market heats up with Black Ops 4 entering the fray to great success.
