Fortnite Has 8.3 Million Concurrent Players Worldwide

Good grief. 8.3 million players at any one time. That is a phenomenal number. In a report by VG247, they claim to have verified that number twice with a spokesperson from Epic Games. Earlier this year, news surfaced about PUBG hitting one million concurrent players for over a year straight. Fortnite clearly laughed at that total and have revealed that they’re at a steady total of 8.3 million.

This is an increase like no other. If anyone thought Fortnite was dying lately because of the decrease in media coverage, you’d be wrong. Since February, this is an increase of 4.9 million. Back then, when they reported having 3.4 million concurrent players, the servers were suffering from severe problems and outage. The fact they’ve more than doubled that number and the servers haven’t had any major problems in a long time is a phenomenal achievement.

This news comes shortly after Fortnite launched in South Korea earlier this week, including a brand new shop in-game branded by one of South Korea’s largest. PC Bang, a huge internet cafe chain in South Korea can now be found in Paradise Palms. This coincides with challenges introduced to South Korean players centred around PC Bang, encouraging them to go out and play Fortnite at the real life locations.

Crazy, crazy stuff. We’re not sure on the total number of players across Fortnite ever, but it must be north of 100 million. Hearthstone recently celebrated having 100 million total players and that game has been declining in popularity as of late. It will be interesting to see how South Korean players fare in Fortnite - PUBG is immensely popular over there and given the recent success of Gen.G Gold at the PUBG Global Invitational this year, can Fortnite surpass it like it has everywhere else?
