High School CS:GO Team Ends Up In Rainbow 6 Siege Pool At Dreamhack Winter

A random entry into a Rainbow 6 tournament has become a potential lucrative opportunity for a high school CS:GO team in Norway.

What started as a bit of fun has become a rare opportunity for one Norwegian Counter-Strike Global Offensive esports team, as a random entry into a Rainbow 6: Siege tournament has turned into a potential esports Cinderella story.
Minigolfgutta, a high-school CS:GO team competing for the Norwegian Folk High School in the fourth division of the country’s Telenorliga esports league, has been tapped to compete in the Dreamhack Winter R6: Siege esports tournament in Stockholm, despite being pros in a completely different game. The reason? The team signed up for a qualifier, only for that qualifier to not have enough sign-ups to go forward, resulting in an instant promotion.
Now this high school team, instead of fiddling their way through a qualifier with little expectations, will be going against some of the best in Rainbow 6 including Team Liquid, G2 Esports, and more. .
The Reddit user sharing the story, EmilBerglund, admits that joining the Rainbow Six tournament was supposed to be a gag, as the team “signed up and laughed about it, thinking we’re going to get thrashed anyways. In fact, according to EmilBerglund two of his teammates have “about three hours in game, and don’t really know what they’re doing.”
Imagine the headlines if this underdog team goes the distance and wins the whole Dreamhack Winter tournament and the $25,000 top prize. This would be the biggest esports story of the year, coming right as 2019 approaches. Do we expect that to happen? No, realistically we expect this team to be out in the first round and those two “three hours of playtime” players to the first eliminated each round, but we’re certainly going to be rooting for them!
