Super Smash Bros Ultimate Controls Guide: Pro Controller, Gamecube Controller, Joy-Con
By Jeff Kotuby ·
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is finally here! While you're duking it out with your friends, keep this guide up to remember the controls, just so you don't hit the wrong button in the heat of battle!

We've all been there - in the heat of of a viscious Super Smash Bros battle, duking it out against that one friend you just can't seem to beat. Then, when victory is within reach, you hit the wrong button and get smacked across the stage and lose the match. Hey, it happens to the best of us. But no more! Now, you can just keep this guide up regardless of what controller you're using. We can't make any guarantees you'll beat your friends, but we can guarantee you'll be hitting all the right buttons! Now, you can always customize these buttons to fit your playstyle, but these are the default buttons that give players the most comfortable layout possible.
Dual Joy-Cons & Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
These buttons are the same whether you're using a Nintendo Pro Controller or two Joy-Cons placed into the shell grip. The layout seems similar to the vintage Gamecube controller, with an additional front bumper on the left side (where that weird M or G button would be on those third-party controllers. You know the ones.)
Gamecube Controller
Here she is, in all her mid-2000s glory: the Gamecube controller. Some might say this is the optimal way to play Smash, and we won't necessarily disagree. This comfortable controller is designed for Smash, with its giant A button, easy-to-flick C-Stick, and sensitive triggers.
Sideways Joy-Con
Look, sometimes you'll get stuck with the single little Joy-Con. Not all of us have enough Gamecube or Pro controllers laying around for all of our friends to use. Some of us have bills to pay! If you're using the Joy-Con, then be ready to your throws and Smashes manually. This is obviously the least optimal controller selection, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Just pick your best character and try your hardest.
Did you know Twin Galaxies followed Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman around for an exclusive documentary that was never released? Have no fear, it's out now! Check out Going Pro starring Mew2King and Justin Wong!
