Fortnite Infinity Blade Confirmed To Release This Week
By Ford James ·
Fortnite is finally getting a melee weapon or LTM in the form of the Infinity Blade, being introduced to the game later this week.
When Fortnite Season 7 launched late last week, we reported on the Infinity Blade in the trailer: “Infinity Blade is in Fortnite Battle Royale Season 7.” Epic has confirmed that the Infinity Blade will be coming to Fortnite later this week as a sword-type melee weapon. It’s been shown off in a brand new trailer that shows the Infinity Blade being pulled out of the ground by the Ice King; the new tier 100 skin in the Fortnite Season 7 battle pass.

If you’re unaware of what the Infinity Blade is, it’s from a mobile fighting game of the same name. Produced by Epic Games, it launched in 2010 and has seen huge success since, spawning two sequels; Infinity Blade II and Infinity Blade III. It’s an interesting crossover, but one that makes sense for Epic to introduce a melee weapon.
Eagle-eyed viewers of the trailer will also spot the area the Ice King pulls the sword out from seems like the top of Polar Peak, one of the new areas in Fortnite Season 7. The only difference this time is that the snow seems to have melted somewhat, meaning more of the castle is accessible. This lends credence to the recent rumours that throughout Season 7, more of the iceberg is going to melt and return that area of the map to the way it was before. Greasy Grove is still visible through the ice, but you can’t reach the chests or get the items so eventually, the ice will likely melt away.
How will the Infinity Blade work in Fortnite? We’re really not too sure. It seems likely that it will be a melee weapon used for close range combat, but it could also be the start of a new exclusive limited time mode. The last time we saw an LTM with such preparation and hype was the Thanos LTM to celebrate the release of Avengers: Infinity War; perhaps this is to coincide with a new Infinity Blade game being announced?
