The NA LCS Will Rebrand To The LCS For 2019

Without the European sister league, the North American League Championship Series will now become just the LCS.

The North American League of Legends Championship Series will be re-branding for the 2019 season according to an announcement from Riot Games earlier today. Following the announcement that the EU LCS would become the League European Championship, or LEC, Riot Games feels there is no longer a need to differentiate the two leagues with the NA and EU tag in front of the LCS, therefore the NA LCS will now become the LCS.

Riot Games hasn’t made any announcements indicating that the LCS will undergo any structural changes, having already undergone the rather large change at the beginning of the year when they instituted franchising to the league. The LEC will be undergoing a similar change this year, as the European teams prepare for franchising to be implemented in the region.
The LCS is set to return on January 26, with quite a lot of hype already being built up during the off-season thanks to some very high-profile roster changes. When it returns, the top teams and players in North America will once again undergo the harrowing task of attempting to not only win regional dominance, but also take their talents to the world at large and compete against the other top teams in the world. After a disappointing 2018 World Championships, the teams of the LCS will be more than eager to prove they have what it takes to compete with the other regions.
