Tfue and KittyPlays Win Fortnite Korea Open

Popular Fortnite streamers Turner “Tfue” Tenney and Kristen “KittyPlays” Michaela have managed to claim victory in the Fortnite Korea Open, taking down other top pro players and personalities along the way. The pair won the Duos main event, while South Korean players SinOoh and Milfy won in the Solos portion of the competition, and while it’s always nice to walk away as the winners of the event, almost none of the competitors will be walking away empty handed.

The event featured a prize pool of 1 billion Won (around $880,000) which went entirely to charity, with certain highlight aspects of the tournament, such as most eliminations and best clip, granting players 10 million Won in prizes, providing more ways for players to contribute to their chosen charity.

The event featured not just well known Fortnite players such as Tfue, Ali “Myth” Kabbani, and KittyPlays, but also played host to local talent and popular figures, such as StarCraft legend Lee “Jaedong” Jae-dong. Promotional material for the event also heavily featured actor Chris Pratt, as he challenged Koreans to play the game.

Fortnite’s recent launch into Korea is a large reason behind this event taking place, as Epic Games looks to capitalize on the worldwide popularity of the game to help it compete with other established titles in the region. With Korea already producing some of the most competitive players in esports, it should be an easy task for Epic Games to drum up interest in what is proving to be a contender for the most popular game out there.
