New Broadcasting Tricks On Show At Polish Esports League
By Zac Cameron ·
The future is here for League of Legends broadcasting, as the observers at the Polish Esports League show off some very fancy new camera angles and tricks to enhance the viewer experience.

One of the hardest parts about watching a new competitive game is learning how to follow the pace of the action. Observers have come a long way from just relying on the casters controlling their own camera’s or having an invisible and indestructible player sitting in a corner somewhere (looking at you early League of Legends tournaments). As technology grows, the ability for developers to include new ways to showcase the action grows with it. Fans of League of Legends will remember the first time the production team was able to split the screen in two and show off both teams competing in a base race, just like Overwatch fans will remember the introduction of the Overwatch World Cup Viewer, which allowed them to dictate what they saw on their own terms.
Now, it seems a new surprise is making its appearance for the first time, with the observers of the Polish Esports League showing off not one, but two new tricks to spectating League of Legends. We’ve seen observers split the camera feed before, and we’ve seen the angles change slightly, or zoom out a bit to show off more of the action, but the observers in this particular clip were able to not only show a top down perspective of the lane, but also split the screen to show off all three lanes at once.
This new way of looking at the map would be an excellent way for the observers to check in with all three lanes at once, showing which lanes are winning, which lanes are frozen in place, and more. The top down perspective does take a bit to get used to, though like all things with practice comes perfection. Hopefully we’ll see these new tricks and more in the 2019 competitive season.
