Riot Games Is Cancelling Their Fantasy LCS For The Spring Split
By Zac Cameron ·
The company has revealed that they are working on the next step for Fantasy LCS, but that comes at the cost of their existing system for now.

Riot Games is working on a new Fantasy LCS and LEC system that is set to be “engaging and fun”, however it’s coming at a steep cost. The existing Fantasy LCS system is being scrapped for now and will not be present for the Spring Split of the 2019 season.
In an announcement post put up today by Chris “Riot Commish” Greeley, the Commissioner of the LCS has revealed that the existing system is too cumbersome to maintain while the new project is being delivered, and that it will not be running for at least the 2019 Spring Split.

“For the last two years, we’ve kept Fantasy running but we haven’t had the opportunity to commit meaningful resources to improve the experience for you. Fantasy hasn’t been prioritized and there was never really a plan for its future or development other than to create one and get it out to fans. We’ve been basically keeping the lights on, and the team maintaining the site has had to use lots of duct tape and band-aids to keep things rolling along. You deserve better,” wrote Greeley in the announcement post. “I know that people will ask why we have neglected Fantasy for so long. I don’t have a good answer for you. It was built on an old platform that isn’t very flexible (as anyone who waited seven weeks for the FOX/CG game to process in Summer Split will tell you), and we just never prioritized it.”
So, for now, it looks like fans will have to use third-party sites for their Fantasy LCS action, at least until Riot can reveal their new system in the new year. Fingers crossed, we might even get to use players from regions outside of North America and Europe.
