KeSPA Cup Finals Hold Redemption Chance For GenG
By Zac Cameron ·
The former world champions have the opportunity to see their name in the lights once again as they square off in the KeSPA Cup finals.
The 2018 KeSPA Cup has almost reached its conclusion, and while some teams have enjoyed the tournament as a way to keep their skills up during the off-season, for Gen.G this is a chance to correct the mistakes made during the 2018 World Championships. After a poor performance as the defending world champions, Gen.G was knocked out of the 2018 World Championships in the group stage. Now, they’ve managed to fight their way through the top teams in Korea to earn a spot in the finals of the KeSPA Cup, and a chance to prove they are still a top team.
Gen.G’s first win in the KeSPA Cup came in the elimination round, where they knocked out SANDBOX Gaming 2-0 to earn a spot in the playoffs. From there, they took down Kingzone DragonX 2-0 to advance to the semifinals, where they faced off against KT Rolster in a tough series that eventually saw Gen.G advance 3-1. Their final opponent of the tournament is the increasingly popular Griffin roster, whom many felt should have been present at the 2018 World Championships after an impressive season in the LCK.
Gen.G will take on Griffin in a battle to bring in the new year, as they face off at 5pm KST on Monday the 31st of December, midnight PST. You can catch all the action on the official YouTube stream embedded below.
