Super Smash Bros Ultimate: How To Earn Gold and Spirit Points

Two different currencies are up for grabs in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and we have the best ways to earn both of them right here.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate: How To Earn Gold and Spirit Points

You’re chugging along in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, unlocking Spirits and taking on the forces of Galeem in World of Light, when you realize you’re out of Spirit Points and can’t upgrade any more Spirits. You decide to quit Adventure and see what new music tracks can be bought in the Shop, only to see that you’re also low in the Gold needed to add those beats to your save file’s portfolio. What is the best way to earn more money, both of the Gold and Spirit Point variety? We got you covered right here.

What’s the difference?

Because there are two different types of currency to consider, we need to first distinguish between the two of them so we know what money to target for the items we need.

- Gold is specifically for use in the Vault Shop just off of the Main Menu, and it can be used to purchase new music, Mii costumes, the occasional Spirit, and Snacks for the Spirits. If the Vault Shop holds the new item you wish to own, you’re going to need the gilded goods in order to retrieve it.

- Spirit Points are the green currency paramount to anything you want to purchase in the Spirits section of the main menu. New Spirits, Snacks, and whatever else appears in the five Adventure Mode stores will need the green SP. It’s also needed for upgrading Spirits with Snacks and summoning new Spirits in the Summon section, so the argument that SP is more important than Gold is valid.

Now that we know what’s what, it’s time to earn some cash. Let’s Smash this bread.

The Spirit Board: a place to earn Spirits and earn some money.

Feel the Spirits

Spirit Battles are probably the easiest way to earn both currencies, as both are given as awards for clearing a Spirit Battle whether you earned the Spirit or not. The amounts earned aren’t terribly significant, but with the right Spirit teams and enough of a gap in power levels those winnings could start to add up over time.

This applies to both the Spirit Board and World of Light, the latter also scattering chest across the map containing one of the two currencies. It’s not the fastest way to do things, but World of Light will definitely allow you to earn big chunks of Gold and SP at a time, the perfect shot to the wallet to get those rewards you want.

Spirit Points specifically can also be earned by Dismissing Spirits, a small amount given for each dismissed Spirit, as well as when selling Items or Spirits in the Inventory screen.

Stick to the Classics

If you’d prefer not to deal with Spirits for a while, taking on one of the character’s Classic Mode challenges will yield both currencies as well. The amount you receive at the end of a Classic run will depend on the Intensity used and whether or not a Classic TIcket was used at the start, but the yield isn’t too bad. A run with Pikachu that started at 2.5 Intensity and a Classic Ticket used ended at 7.2 Intensity and scored about 1500 Gold and 1200 Spirit Points. Not enough to buy everything in the shops, but certainly a help.

When all else fails, keep it simple and Smash!

Just Smash, Baby!

These last two methods are strictly Gold-exclusive, so if you’re only about earning Spirit Points to buy that stupid expensive Legend Spirit you can stop right here. For the Gold-seekers, regular Smash matches (with friends, alone, or online) is the easiest way to earn that golden coin. The more players you have, and the longer matches progress, the more Gold will be earned.

Online battles will add to the wallet faster, as any Smash Tags collected during an online fight can be sold on top of regular earnings, but any normal Smash match will earn you some dough after your character completes their majestic win pose. Actually, if it’s your copy of the game you get the gold for local matches no matter who wins, so there’s a silver lining if you come in second.

With these tips in place you should be able to earn all the money you need to get whatever your heart desires. For more help with everything Super Smash Bros Ultimate has to offer, check out our guide on World of Light's New Game Plus and how to perform a Final Smash.
