Former Blizzard President Mike Morhaime To Leave Strategic Advisory Role
By Zac Cameron ·
While the former President and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment has remained with the company in an advisory role since stepping down, recent documents point towards his leaving the company entirely in the coming months.

When Mike Morhaime, former Blizzard president and co-founder, announced he would be stepping down from his role back in October of 2018, the company was quick to reveal that he would be staying involved for some time in a strategic advisory role. However, recent documents from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission indicate that Morhaime will in fact be leaving the company for good in just a few months.

“As previously disclosed, on Oct. 3, 2018, Michael Morhaime entered into an agreement with Activision Blizzard, Inc. pursuant to which he would provide strategic advice to the company in an advisory capacity,” the filing states. “Mr. Morhaime’s employment with the company as strategic advisor will conclude on April 7, 2019.”
Activision Blizzard has undergone quite a few role changes in the past few months, including the announcement of three new leadership appointments just this week. Rob Kostich, Call of Duty executive vice president, has been named Activision’s new president, former chief financial officer and chief strategy officer Humam Sakhnini has been named King Digital’s president, and CFO Dennis Durkin has been named president of Activision Blizzard’s emerging businesses, adding to his existing role as CFO.
Activision Blizzard CFO Spencer Neumann was let go this past month, while Blizzard CFO Amrita Ahuja has also announced they will be stepping down. Former senior vice president Mike Sepso, one of the co-founders of Major League Gaming, also left the company in October to join the Overwatch League’s New York Excelsior. With so many top-level leadership changes coming at once, one wonders what effect this will have on Activision Blizzard, and the games they publish.
