What Match To Catch As The LEC Kicks Off The 2019 Season
By Zac Cameron ·
The best teams in Europe are preparing to launch a new season of competitive League of Legends, and this is the match you don't want to miss.
It’s a new year, and that means new resolutions, new goals, and of course, a new season of competitive League of Legends. Europe is about to kick off their first season as the LEC, and with franchising now in play, we’re seeing some very exciting teams squaring off on Summoners Rift.
The opening match of the season will see Fnatic taking on SK Gaming in a clash that heralds back to the original rivalry between these two organizations. That rivalry has lessened somewhat over the years, with former SK Gaming mid laner Carlos "ocelote" Rodríguez Santiago leaving SK Gaming to form what would become G2 Esports and taking the rivalry with him. This new breed of SK Gaming players however are more than happy to step up and face off against their former rivals as the opening match of the season.
While there are a few exciting matches this weekend, by far the most anticipated one will be the clash between Origen and G2 Esports. Origen is a returning organization that has some new powerful backers behind it, combining fans of the old team with fans of the new as they look to once again carve out their space in the LEC. Squaring off against them however is a revamped G2 Esports, that has managed to combine the two most dominant mid laners in the LEC into one team. Luka "Perkz" Perković, longtime mid laner for G2, has shifted to the bot lane to make room for former rival Rasmus "Caps" Winther, in a move that shocked fans of the game. Can this audacious experiment stand up on the Rift, or will G2 be forced to decide which mid laner they truly want on stage. You can catch all the action when the games kick off at 9am PT, and the Origen vs. G2 Esports match will kick off at 1pm PT.
