LCS Kicks Off 2019 With A Bang
By Zac Cameron ·
The North American League of Legends pro scene has resumed for 2019, and the opening match was a real stunner for fans.
Finally, after many long months the LCS is back and better than ever. Hopes were high for an excellent start to the 2019 Spring Split, and the teams certainly didn’t disappoint. Here’s a brief breakdown of the games from day one, week one, of the LCS 2019 Spring Split.
Team Liquid – Cloud9
The highly anticipated season opener between the defending champions and the team that carried the hopes of the region at the 2018 World Championships proved exactly what kind of gameplay we can expect to see from these teams this year. While Cloud9 did put up a valiant effort, the loss of their star mid laner Jensen to Team Liquid certainly seemed to hamper their efforts in this game. After all, how do you beat the guy you trained in the first place?
100 Thieves – TSM
It’s only game one, which means that there is so much than can happen between now and the end of the season, but this is the kind of game that will give hope back to TSM fans after the bitter disappointment that was 2018. Their worst year to date saw the team fail to reach the finals in either split and fail to reach the World Championships for the first time, however a victory on the opening day will go a long way to bringing back fans to the fold.
CLG – OpTic Gaming
This was an interesting match to try and predict, with neither team looking too great last year. However, it looks like the off-season has been kind to OpTic after their acquisition of Dardoch and former World Champion Crown. Whether or not they can keep this momentum going remains to be seen, however it’s a great start to the year.
Flyquest – Golden Guardians
Both of these teams made some major roster adjustments in the off-season, so it was interesting to see how they would perform on stage today. While the Golden Guardians do have plenty of individual skill, it seems the team cohesion from Flyquest was too strong in the end, as they worked better as a unit to achieve victory.
Clutch Gaming – Echo Fox
Our last match of the day was an interesting one to watch, with Echo Fox and Clutch Gaming making quite a few player trades in the off-season. We saw some sparks of greatness from the new Echo Fox roster, but it looks like Clutch Gaming were able to connect all the dots a bit faster than their opponents this time, allowing them to claim the match.
Hopefully the games for Day Two of Week One are just as excellent as the games from today. At the very least, fans don’t have to wait any longer to see the LCS and the North American pros in action once again.
