LEC Wraps Up Week 3 With A Whimper, Not A Bang
By Zac Cameron ·
What should have been a thrilling conclusion to week 3 of the LEC Spring Split ended up more like a masterclass in what not to do.
We’re all wrapped up with week 3 of the LEC, and while some of the games were exciting to watch, the action slowly ran out by the end of the day with the exciting Misfits and Fnatic match failing to deliver much more than a one-sided beat-down. Here’s a brief breakdown of the games from today.
G2 Esports vs Splyce
Another dominant win for what is easily the best team in Europe right now. It’s pretty clear that if they can keep this level of gameplay going for the rest of the season, then G2 Esports are in with a chance of having a perfect season. Not a bad outcome for the team that seemed to win the off-season quite handily.
exceL Esports vs Schalke 04
Schalke continue to look strong as they build their case for a top spot in the LEC. Their skills are always impressive and it’s almost unfair how they turn what could be a losing situation into a victory. We need more strong teams in Europe to elevate the field of play, so a strong Schalke is a good Schalke.
SK Gaming vs Origen
Origen pick up their second win of the split, which is a little surprising considering how hyped the organization was coming back into the scene. Hopefully they can continue to improve over time and turn back into that team that raced from the Challenger scene to the World Championships back in 2015.
Rogue vs Team Vitality
Team Vitality continue the misery for Rogue, preventing the newcomers from achieving their first win of the season. For Vitality, every victory is a step closer to their goal of reaching the top of the LEC, so this is just another expected result from a team that surprised so many last year.
Misfits Gaming vs Fnatic
What fans hoped for was the opportunity for Fnatic to turn their ship around and get back on the winning track, especially after their victory yesterday. Unfortunately, Misfits showed exactly what happens when you hand a good team winning lanes and turned this match into a clinic. Come on Fnatic, you can do better than this, right?
With the LEC all wrapped up for the week, it’s time to turn our attention to the other regions. Hopefully the games in the LCS are just as exciting as we’ve seen in Europe already this year.
