Is Apex Legends Cross Platform? Hope for the Future

Monday, February 4th saw the highly popular battle royale world get a newcomer to challenge for the title of top dog when it comes to the genre that has taken over the video game industry in the form of Apex Legends. The free to play battle royale title of Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment is set in the universe of the developer's Titanfall franchise and has players battling in 20 teams of three to gain victory. While a majority of the attention towards the newly released game has been focused on its gameplay, many players have been asking one simple question. Is Apex Legends cross platform?

Is Apex Legends Cross Platform?

The topic of cross platform play for the newly released game is not very surprising considering that the implementation of total cross platform play in Fortnite Battle Royale has led to players often asking the question of whether or not a title is cross platform. This was no different on February 4th, as the topic of Apex Legends being cross platform began to rise considering the game's similarities to Fortnite in terms of being a free to play battle royale game. 

Unfortunately for those who would love to secure some highlight eliminations and victories with their friends on other platforms, Apex Legends does not currently support cross platform play. However, the current state of this feature in Apex Legends does not mean that the capability will not be available in the title's future. 

While speaking with Eurogamer, Respawn Entertainment explained that it is planning to add cross platform play into the battle royale title in the future in order to allow players to play with their friends no matter the system they are using. Respawn did state though that it has no plans to allow for progress and purchases to be shared across platforms. 

“Respawn plans to allow players to play with their friends on other platforms," said Respawn Entertainment. "Cross-progress and cross-purchases will never be possible in Apex Legends due to the way systems were set up early on, which can’t be reconciled after the fact.”

Is Apex Legends cross platform? While the answer to this question is currently no, Respawn Entertainment has made it clear that the introduction of this highly requested feature is on its to do list when it comes to the future of the latest newcomer to the battle royale genre.
