Titanfall 3 Is No Longer In The Works

The anticipated third instalment of the Titanfall series is no longer being developed, says producer Drew McCoy.

The latest addition to the Titanfall franchise has made a surprise release earlier today, with Apex Legends dropping hot into our laps with barely any kind of lead-up. While the game itself is a pretty fun take on the Battle Royale genre with a Titanfall flavor, the news does come with a sour note for fans of the franchise, with Respawn producer Drew McCoy revealing in an interview with Eurogamer that Titanfall 3 is no longer under development.
“The world thinks we’re making Titanfall 3 and we’re not - this is what we’re making,” he said. “To try and convince a skeptical audience for months with trailers and hands-on articles, we’re just like, ‘Let the game speak for itself’ - it’s the most powerful antidote to potential problems. We’re doing a free to play game, with essentially loot boxes, after we were bought by EA, and it’s not Titanfall 3. It’s the perfect recipe for a marketing plan to go awry, so why have that - let’s just ship the game and let players play.”
Kotaku’s Jason Schreier had previously reported that Titanfall 3 was in development for a late 2018 release, likely pushed by the desire to not have the game look too dated on launch (the game was set to use the Valve created Source engine). Speculation was rampant that Apex Legends would either be a stopgap game to tide players over until development could be finished, or that possibly the work already completed would be turned into Apex Legends. Now, to the dismay of fans, it seems the latter is the case.
