Dr DisRespect Explains Why Apex Legends Needs Ranked Play
By Nicholas Barth ·
Popular Twitch streamer Dr DisRespect recently gave his thoughts on why Apex Legends needs a ranked playlist.

During the massive rise of popularity that the battle royal genre has seen in the video game industry during the past couple of years, multiple titles have skyrocketed to the top of the Twitch viewership charts and have become giants in the gaming industry. The latest battle royale title to take the video game industry by storm has been Respawn Entertainment's title of Apex Legends that was officially revealed and released for free on February 4th. In just a few days, Apex Legends has already had millions of players experience the action of the battle royale title set in the Titanfall universe and has positioned itself as the top game on the popular streaming platform of Twitch. However, Guy "Dr DisRespect" Beahm, one of the most popular streamers on Twitch, believes that Apex Legends is still missing something.
While Dr DisRespect has been one of the leading streamers for Apex Legends on Twitch since its release,Dr DisRespect recently explained that he believes Apex Legends need to implement a ranked playlist which is something that Dr DisRespect believes has been missing from the battle royale genre as a whole.
"People are saying ranked mode. You know, we have yet to see a ranked mode, a competitive like mode for a battle royale other than like the tournaments that go on in Fortnite. The in-game tournaments or whatever you call those, the Pop Up Cups," said Dr DisRespect. "Those are kinda competitive, but like an actually true ranked playlist might be interesting because then you know it'll feel like we are playing for something, and that's what we haven't been getting with a lot of battle royales. Are we playing for something other than trying to be the last team alive, and it's easy! 14 wins yesterday and 8, 9 or maybe 10 today, and today was an off day."
While the allure of a new battle royale title and the excitement of achieving victories is often the main draw of a title in the genre at first, the main complaint of battle royale players has been that once this feeling leaves that there is often nothing else to play for. However, it remains to be seen if Apex Legends will learn from the mistakes of the battle royale titles that have come before it and implement a ranked playlist for players to compete in.
