PUBG Wins Steam Game Of The Year 2018 Award

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been named Steam’s 2018 game of the year. The awards were voted on by the Steam Community and highlight some of the biggest games from the past year. Some of the other awards handed out include best developer, best VR game of the year, and a bunch of other awards that made up the Steam Awards 2018.

PUBG has been suffering the past few months as it slowly slips down the Battle Royale ranking list. Newer games such as Fortnite, Blackout for Black Ops 4, and Apex Legends, have all contributed to the decline in interest in PUBG. Even newer maps, an increase in esports attention, and a large amount of bug fixes over the past few months have done little to keep players returning to the game. While it wasn’t the first Battle Royale game to come out, it’s hard to imagine a world without PUBG bringing mainstream interest towards the genre. While it might be declining these days, any recognition to the game and the work it played in making the Battle Royale genre the dominant game-type of 2018 should be celebrated.
