Seagull Explains Why Overwatch Casters Avoid Saying GOATS
By Zac Cameron ·
Overwatch fans might believe there's a conspiracy to hide GOATS from the casual player base, but Seagull has a fairly innocent explanation for why casters won't call the team comp by name.

GOATS is the nickname for the current top meta team comp of three tanks and three supports, named after the Contenders team who popularized the strategy last year. While it does have a proven success rate, many fans are unhappy with the current GOATS meta because there’s less room for flashy plays and DPS characters, and the best counter to GOATS is more GOATS.
The somewhat controversial nature of GOATS has some fans believing there is a conspiracy from Blizzard to keep from calling the team comps used in the Overwatch League what they are, GOATS. Despite being played in almost every game this weekend, the casters have been hesitant to use the term when describing the games, opting to use phrases such as “3-3” and “Triple tank”. Former Overwatch League pro player Brandon “Seagull” Larned however, believes there is a much more innocent explanation.
“Here’s why they don’t say it,” started Seagull. “Because if a new player walks in and hears GOATS, they’re like wtf is GOATS?”
Because GOATS is not named or related to the characters used, unlike PharMercy or Quad Tanks, the casters are likely not using the term to avoid confusing viewers who are not as versed in the current competitive meta.
“[Casters] are definitely allowed to say [GOATS], it just doesn’t make sense for a caster to say it because the OWL has so many new viewers,” concluded Seagull.
Hopefully Blizzard will mix things up with the meta soon and GOATS will fade into the background like previous meta’s, that way fans can see more action in the Overwatch League and their competitive games, and less death balls of tanks and supports rolling around the map as a group.
