The popular new battle royale title of Apex Legends has only been available for players to play since February 4th. However, this young life has not stopped Apex Legends from already showing that it can deliver an exciting competitive experience with the two Twitch Rivals tournaments that have been held for the title.

With the Twitch Rivals events showing that Apex Legends has the potential to develop a healthy competitive scene, many high-profile players have been recently discussing how exactly the competitive scene of Apex Legends should be formatted. This was the case when popular Twitch streamers Daequan "daequan" Loco and Team SoloMid and Jaryd "Summit1g" Lazar conversed about the topic on Twitter on Wednesday, February 20th.

Beginning a discussion of the format he believes the competitive scene of Apex Legends should use, TSM daequan explained that competitive events should award teams with one point for every kill and five points for every victory. TSM daequan went on to explain that the reasoning for this is because when there are only professional battle royale players in a lobby that many times camping becomes an issue and results in a severe lack of action for spectators.

I really hope Apex Legends Competitive scene has a point per Kill & 5 point per win type format (example for trios). When there's only pros in the same custom lobby, if they're all camping its a snooze fest to watch. This game has so much potential to be exciting to spectate!!! pic.twitter.com/CbBJV4dhwT

Responding the thoughts of TSM daequan, Summit1g stated that Apex Legends needs to be the first battle royale game to utilize a "tournament style lobby" in the current format of teams playing in public matches and not against each other where you have the ability to get into the same lobby as another team to battle for a chance to earn more points.

Apex needs to be the first BR to implement a tournament style lobby where you can queue into the same lobby against another team so there’s a chance to fight for even more points.

The Team SoloMid streamer responded back to the idea of Summit1g and explained that while the tournament style lobby would be an interesting idea he was gearing his first remark towards LAN events where only professional players would be competing against each other. This led to Summit1g answering back and explaining that he feels that the "old school" method of having all of the competing players for an event play in the same lobby is not optimal, as it leads to a variety of issues.

TSM daequan ended the discussion by stating that he believes that the issues listed by Summit1g are unavoidable when it comes to competitive battle royale except if Apex Legends does not have a traditional competitive scene but utilizes the public play format that the Twitch Rivals tournaments used.

What format do you believe would work best for competitive Apex Legends?

With Apex Legends still being extremely young when it comes to its overall lifespan so far, there is a great deal of time for the competitive community of the battle royale title to develop a format that would make for the most entertaining and fair product. This means that there will likely be many more discussions taking place, such as the one above between TSM daequan and Summit1g, regarding how the title's competitive scene will operate for future events.
