Fan Appreciation Pours in After SF Shock Lose in OWL Finals

Immediately after their marathon Stage 1 Finals defeat at the hands of the Vancouver Titans, the young players of the Shock looked completely dejected. But their amazing run through the playoffs, after almost missing the postseason entirely, was a great time to be a Shock fan.

In a video posted on his Twitter account, a San Francisco Shock superfan who goes by the name CaptainAwesome voiced his unrelenting support for the boys of the bay-area Overwatch League team. CaptainAwesome reassures the San Francisco Shock team that they’ve “proven so many people wrong,” and bolsters them to simply “keep moving forward.”

CaptainAwesome, who is a pretty deadly Widowmaker himself, has become a huge source of inspiration for the San Francisco Shock players, and a major rallying point in the #ShocktheWorld community. In return, the boys from the bay-area continue to give fans like CaptainAwesome “so much hope, and so much to look forward to” he adds in his video.

Fan adoration and congratulations continue to pour in from all over social media, and the San Francisco Shock players are feeling the love. After the loss, prolific Shock DPS player Sinatraa posted a tweet that simply read “im so f**ing sorry”, but that attitude was quickly squashed by the onslaught of support he and his squad received.

@SFShock made a fan out of me on Sunday. I truly believed they would win, right up to the very end. Finish it in Stage 2! #ShockTheWorld

It may get lost in the celebration of the Titans, but the @SFShock has been incredibly successful with their plan of building this team.

They began OWL knowing they would have to wait for their players to come of age and have built around them for the long term. Props.

A Shocking Future

The boys from San Francisco will most likely get over their loss fairly quickly. Don't expect them to be look back over their shoulders at the past during the break before Overwatch League Stage 2 begins. Right now, they have one of the brightest futures in this league.

THIS WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING... We are INCREDIBLY proud of the SF Shock Players and Coaches! We are proud to have pushed the @VancouverTitans to the limit.

This is going to be the beginning of a beautiful rivalry... STAGE 2 IS #WINNABLE #RideTheWave pic.twitter.com/6yskxs0n9h

With players like the 18-year-old main-tank Super playing Reinhardt as well or better than almost all of his OWL counterparts and steady clutch plays from off-tank ChoiHyoBin, the Shock head forward in their second season looking extremely hard to beat. Expect them to be in the conversation when it comes to the Stage 2 Playoffs.

Overwatch League Stage 2 kicks off on Thursday, April 4th, 2019.
