Fortnite Stretched Resolution Now Not Allowed in Competitive Play

Epic Games announced on April 3rd that stretched resolution would no longer be allowed in competitive Fortnite events.

Fortnite Stretched Resolution Now Not Allowed in Competitive Play

One thing that many competitive Fortnite Battle Royale players have used while playing is a stretched resolution that many believe gives them an advantage when playing, such as larger hitboxes for enemy players, and is overall more enjoyable playing in than the standard 1920 by 1080 version at the aspect ratio of 16:9. However, in a development post by Epic Games focused on the competitive side of Fortnite, the developer announced that it would not be allowing players to use a stretched version in official competitive events going forward in a decision that did not sit well with many players.

Fortnite Stretched Resolution

In the Competitive Fortnite State of Development post, Epic Games explained its decision to restrict players from being able to use a stretched resolution in competitive events like Arena Mode or the various in-game tournaments.

"In the near future, we will be updating how we handle custom resolutions on PC. When using a custom resolution, vertical FOV will be locked. Horizontal FOV will be unlocked in all modes, but in competitive playlists (e.g. Arena and in-game tournaments) we will be locking the aspect ratio to 16:9," stated Epic Games.

With stretched resolution a staple gameplay setting for many professional Fortnite players, the community did not shy away from taking to Twitter to voice their displeasure over the news that they will be forced to play on the standard aspect ratio setting for upcoming events like the World Cup and not allowed to use stretched.

dude what are you doing lmao

Didn't expect ya'll could come up with even more dumb stuff.
You change this for viewers experience,
Yet the game runs like ass (optimization, multiple bugs displayed on stream during tournaments EVERY match which make them not even watch in the first place. ? pic.twitter.com/SYobjLue5w

Unfortunately for players who are not pleased with the announcement by Epic Games that stretched resolution will no longer be allowed in competitive Fortnite events, they will have to be ready to compete in native resolution if they wish to have a shot at grabbing a share of the $40,000,000 prize pool that will be up for grabs throughout the 2019 Fortnite World Cup.
