A message from new Twin Galaxies Editorial Editor-in-Chief TJ Denzer about where TG Editorial is and where it's going.

A Letter From TG Editorial: New Leadership & An Emboldened Direction

Hey, one and all. TJ Denzer here. Who? Well, I’ve been the Senior Editor of Twin Galaxies Editorial since its launch in December 2017. Some of you may know me from my efforts in covering events like the Galaga Score Wars tournament at Meow Wolf in 2018, my coverage of various arcades and establishments keeping retro gaming alive, as well as covering EVO 2018, QuakeCon, DreamHack, PAX, and more. I was directing Scoreboard Spotlight before certain complications forced me to take a step back. I’ve had my hands in a lot of major projects in the last year and I’ve been happy to help share the voices of competitive gaming both old and new in all of the stories that can and should be told.

If you don’t know me, I hope to change that as I take the reins of Twin Galaxies Editorial as its new Editor-in-Chief. I was recently asked to step into this role and happily accepted. As someone who both enjoys the old school accomplishments and rigorous record-chasing of the classic Twin Galaxies scene and someone who is an avid fan of new school competition like League of Legends, Overwatch, and the ever-growing FGC, I feel confident and enthusiastic in continuing to build a journalistic venture which can appeal to all fans of competitive gaming. Not everyone enjoys everything, and you don’t have to, but it’s on me to make sure there’s something for every competitive gaming enthusiast here, whether it comes from me or my staff. That’s a task I’m always dedicated to accomplishing.

So I’d like to take the time to clear the air on some pretty basic stuff, some for fun, and some for real, but all based on the regular commentary I hear from our readers.

  • “Can I have an H1Z1 Hoodie code?” – Nope, I don’t have control over that, and no one at Twin Galaxies Editorial likely ever will. Apologies, friend.
  • “When are you going to deal with Billy Mitchell?” – Shockingly, we still get this question, but Twin Galaxies Adjudication (Always considered a separate acting entity from Editorial) officially removed Mitchell’s scores from the record books in April 2018. I was one of the people who had a hand in writing the official press release for publication on TG Editorial. I can’t really deal with it more than I have, and there are plenty of other stories to talk about now.
  • “You’re a journo. Are you even good at gaming?” – It doesn’t matter too much, but BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is my current competitive crush. I’ve moved between Master 1 and Challenger rank with over 2500 wins, and I took a 9th place finish at Canada Cup in 2018. I maintain my controller screwed me (damn PS4 share button), but I’ll be attending Texas Showdown and EVO 2019 to see if I can slip in and shake up the brackets. Other than that, at Score Wars last year I played on a Discs of Tron machine and put up a score that topped the current 8th place in the leaderboards. But due to obvious conflicts, TG Editorial doesn’t submit records and I don’t have anything outside of some neat pictures unfortunately. Short answer? Yes, I play hard and improve tirelessly. We make time for the things we love.
  • “I don’t like that you guys just talk about esports, Twitch streamers, and drama.” – We most certainly try to target the subjects people are reading and those matters… well… matter! But we do see what you’re saying. We’re always thinking of new opportunities and ways to explore every scene, even if they don’t come out as often. As mentioned before, I’ve worked on Scoreboard Spotlight, and I’ve worked with industry notables and TG community on guest articles outside of my own projects. We’re also pursuing a greater variety of social media on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram that highlights different corners of our community and fans. Believe you me, I want to pursue everything that makes competitive gaming cool. I always have, and I always will. Bear with me while we search for the best ways to do it.

And that about covers it for now. Twin Galaxies Editorial is still so young, but it has been a whirlwind time building coverage for this new era of Twin Galaxies. I hope the folks that know me also know that I will continue to pursue coverage that tells the best stories competitive gaming has to offer and I hope those that don't know will find out soon enough. My team and I are passionate about this stuff, and with everyone's support, we will continue to highlight and celebrate the legit success and greatness of accomplishments old and new.

Join us in that celebration, won’t you?
