Apex Legends Losing Players Caused Twitch Viewership Decline?
By Nicholas Barth ·
The losing of players for Apex Legends could be resulting in the battle royale's titles major decline in Twitch viewership recently.

The beginning of 2019 saw developer Respawn Entertainment make a huge splash in the video game industry with its battle royale title of Apex Legends that quickly amassed a player base of tens of millions of players and climbed to the top of the Twitch viewership charts. However, it looks as though the lack of new satisfying content and frustrating bugs with Apex Legends in recent months has resulted in the battle royale game losing many players punctuated by the title's major decline in viewership on the popular streaming platform of Twitch.
Apex Legends Losing Players
With a strong marketing strategy of recruiting the biggest battle royale streamers on Twitch, Apex Legends was able to reach an average viewership mark of 200,000 viewers throughout its first weeks of being officially released. Combining this with high-profile personalities Michael "shroud" Grzesiek, Tyler "Ninja" Belvins, Guy "Dr DisRespect" Beahm, and rising Apex Legends superstar NRG Esports' Coby "Dizzy" Meadows competing in a Twitch Rivals tournament together, the Respawn Entertainment battle royale title quickly became the hottest game to watch on Twitch. This led to the game gaining an absurd amount of players and not even having to worry about losing them.
However, according to a report by Polygon, Twitch viewership statistics site twitch metrics has measured Apex Legends losing viewership on Twitch from an average of 200,000 to the current average of approximately 40,000 to 50,000 viewers. This is even when the likes of shroud and Dr DisRespect are both streaming the title at the same time and them each having over 15,000 viewers. While this isn't an official count of Apex Legends players, there is a high probability that an overall decline in interest in the game by it losing players has resulted in it losing the insane viewership numbers it gathered when it was first released.
With Respawn Entertainment being very vocal about their title gaining a very large player base early on in its life, the fact that the developer has not been very vocal in recent months regarding the number of players playing has led to some sections of the community to believe that Apex Legends has been losing players at a steady rate.
Do you think that Apex Legends has been losing players more recently that has resulted in its Twitch viewership decline, do you not think that the battle royale game losing players has been a factor at all in its drop from the top of the Twitch charts? Let us know in the comments below!
