In what can only be called a marathon of Overwatch, the Atlanta Reign and Guangzhou Charge played the highest-scoring game in Overwatch League History today.

Charge and Reign Play Highest-Scoring Game in OWL History

Today we witnessed one of the longest matches ever played in the Overwatch League between the rising Atlanta Reign and the feisty Guangzhou Charge.

After heading into half-time with a 1-1 tie for maps in their best-of-four, the Charge and the Reign went out to King’s Row (a Hybrid Map), that happened to need double overtime in order to complete.

This was after the Atlanta Reign won a matchup on Hanamura that went to double overtime. Eventually, the Reign were able to take Hanamura 7-6, but failed to take King’s Row as they dropped that map 8-7.

Both maps are designed to have 3-points as a maximum amount of caps on per round. The 13-point Hanamura added onto the 15-point King’s Row was an absolute marathon of an Overwatch match.

The extraneous length of the match was due to neither team really stepping it up big on defense for the majority of their time in-game. It grew into a war of high-scores and high-powered offense, but Dogman and his Atlanta squad just couldn’t find the juice they needed in the end on Rialto.

The Guangzhou Charge would eventually with the entire match with a score of 3-1, but the scoreline truly doesn’t tell the right story.

“I feel relieved to be out of this series,” said shoutcaster Seth “Achilios” King after the long head-to-head finally concluded.

Officially, the Charge’s win over the Reign is the highest scoring match in Overwatch League history with a total score of 19-14 for Guangzhou. The two teams also set OWL points records on Hanamura and King's Row respectively. The 3-plus hour match was a tremendous display of offense.

With the win, the Charge also dissolved their recent losing streak, all while the Reign have not snapped their winning streak.

The Overwatch League will return next Saturday, April 27th when Week 4 kicks-off. This upcoming week will be the first-ever home-stand in Overwatch League history, as the Dallas Fuel host two days worth of games in Texas.
