How to Beat Mortal Kombat 11 Towers of Time Engulf In Wrath Team Fight
By TJ Denzer ·
The Towers of Time challenge Engulf In Wrath - Lost to Vengeance in Mortal Kombat 11 is a doozy. Here's how to prep your team to take down Scorpion and score his special gear.

Have you tried Mortal Kombat 11’s latest boss tower challenge, Engulf In Wrath - Lost to Vengeance? One of the towers in Towers of Time is always a type of boss tower for which you can bring multiple teammates, whether random or invited. That said, even with friends, these fights can be quite a challenge. Engulf in Wrath is no exception, even with the Mortal Kombat 11 patch that reduced the difficulty in Towers of Time a bit. If you want to take down Scorpion and get his special gear and augments, our guide will help you prepare for and win this fight.
Engulf In Wrath’s Boss: Scorpion
Lost to Vengeance is the only tower in the Engulf In Wrath Towers of Time. Your challenge is to take on a boss variant Scorpion and win, whether solo or with two teammates (bring teammates, unless you’re a big-boy showoff). Your team must only deplete his bar one time, but that’s easier said than done. Scorpion has the deck stacked in his favor. He has a giant health pool and various modifiers to assist him in defeating you and your team as you chip away at his health bar.
At about 80% to 50% health, areas of the floor will temporarily engulf in flame, doing damage over time. At about half of his health bar removed, fire rockets will come out of portals, breaking your combos and setting you on fire for damage over time as well if they hit. Finally, once Scorpion’s health bar is at around 30% in the Fatal Blow window, the battleground will be coated in fire rain, doing light damage over time and fire cyclones will appear that increase that damage drastically if you get caught in them.
Perhaps a little further unfairly, Scorpion can also use a Fatal Blow once per each of your team’s fighters, so don’t be tricked into thinking he can’t access it on the third fighter if he used it on the second. He can and will Fatal Blow you again.
Team Abilities & Modifiers
You’re not without your own tools to turn the tide against this Engulf In Wrath boss. Be sure you leave the screen in Theater Mode because each of your team has a selection of three pre-selected activatable modifiers that can be used if you’re inactive to aid the active fighter. Each inactive fighter’s modifiers are tied to a face button which can be pressed to deliver its effect before going to a cool down. In Theater View, you can see the cooldown run out before the modifier is ready again. You cannot use your own modifiers while you are the active fighter. Below is what each fighter has and tips on how to use them.
1st Fighter
- Elder Gas: Gas will streak across the screen and stun the enemy for a moment.
- Armored: The fighter’s attacks are temporarily uninterruptable for a few seconds. Damage can still be taken.
- Gift of Blood: A heart item will be dropped on the fight screen. Picking it up steals a little health from the enemy and returns it to the fighter.
Once the first fighter is out, their Elder Gas and Armored abilities will be a massive help to the remaining fighters. The armor will ensure that Scorpion can’t combo up properly, allowing fighters to attack through his combos. If Armored is unavailable and Scorpion does begin to combo up on a fighter, a well-timed Elder Gas can stop his attack and leave him wide open for a counter combo. Gift of Blood will also help keep health bars up as long as fighters step on them. Just try not to layer Elder Gas on the third fighter’s Hand of the Elder God or you’ll come up short on defensive abilities to keep your fighters out of trouble when they really need them. Also, pay attention to your fellow player’s armor abilities and try to sequence after one another so you’re not stacking the ability on itself and losing out on precious armor time.
2nd Fighter
- Tekunin Vampiric Missiles: A homing missile targets them enemy. If it successfully hits, it damages, interrupts attacks, and returns health the allied fighter.
- Blood Soaked Fists: Upon activation, punch attacks will restore some health for a few seconds.
- Armor: The fighter’s attacks are temporarily uninterruptable for a few seconds. Damage can still be taken.
Once again, Armor is the key here. Space out your armor with your fellow players’ armors to make the best use of it. With the Tekunin Vampiric Missile, the health is negligible, but you can use it to help your fighters extend combos or interrupt Scorpion’s combo. Use your best judgement and try to time the missile correctly as it has a long wind-up to reaching Scorpion. Blood Soaked Fists is less than useful, but the little bit of health could help just slightly.
3rd Fighter
- Hand of the Elder God: A skeletal arm appears and flicks the opponent away, damaging and interrupting attacks.
- Gift of Ice: An ice medallion falls down. Touching it gives the player a couple hits of super armor and short immunity to fire modifiers on the fight screen.
- Instant Health: Instantly restores a small portion of the active fighter’s health bar.
The third fighter has maybe the biggest responsibilities. Whatever you do, DO NOT SPAM HAND OF THE ELDER GOD. This ability can prematurely end your teammate’s throws and break up their combos by either knocking both fighters down or knocking Scorpion out of your fighter’s range. Hand of the Elder God is best reserved for if Scorpion begins to combo your active fighter, for which you can break up the combo and save them from heavy damage.
Gift of Ice is crucial once fire missiles and fire floor start coming. They’ll negate the damage, plus it gives your active fighter a brief moment of super armor, great for attacking through Scorpion’s attacks. Finally, Instant Health should be used whenever your fighter has a portion of their life bar missing to instantly boost them up and keep them in the fight longer. If the third fighter uses their modifiers correctly, this can become a much easier fight.
Gear Preparation & Augments
It’s worth noting that if you’ve been building up your favorite Mortal Kombat 11 character and collecting gear and augments for them, you might consider getting a couple new variations ready for the Engulf in Wrath fight. There are augments specifically for these team fights. Some will increase your damage depending on where you start in the fight line-up while others do things like boost damage or defenses based on if your team is taking their first attempt at a fight or if they’ve lost. Each one also has resistances.
You’d do well to make a variation with an augment where you start in first, second, and third in the fight, as well as slotting one variation for your team’s first attempt at a fight and slotting another for with an augment to boost you on a retry. Obviously if you can slot to defend against fire-based damage and modifiers in the case of Scorpion in Engulf in Wrath, that’s good too.
Multiple Fatal Blows
Before we mentioned that Scorpion can do a Fatal Blow per each of your characters in Engulf in Wrath and that’s definitely something to watch out for, but he’s not the only one who gets to do multiple Fatals. Every character on your team has access to use their Fatal Blow one time if they’re in the correct health range. Strangely enough, if the first fighter uses the Fatal Blow, the button prompts go away, but upon testing, we’ve learned that the second and third fighters can still access their Fatal Blows even if the previous fighter has used one, as long as they’re in the appropriate health window.
If the first and second fighter can get off their Fatal Blows, it will go a good way in continuing to chip away at Scorpion’s health, but the third fighter’s Fatal Blow is once again crucial. It’s likely your third fighter will fight Scorpion in the fire rain and vortexes. This matters because if you successfully land a Fatal Blow, you won’t take damage from the fire rain during the attack. That means free unanswered damage on Scorpion. Do your best as a team to land every Fatal Blow you can at each opportunity and really put a hurting on this Mortal Kombat 11 boss.
If you follow everything above, you should have all the tools you need as a team to take Scorpion down and collect his gear and augments, including the Luridae skin, Vengeance Kunai spear, Kenchibi Hell Blade katana, and Hanzo’s Heated Face of Anger mask. You’ll also score some random modifier consumables and a random character augment, so take what you’ve learned, head into Towers of Time and give Scorpion the beating he deserves before a new Towers of Time takes its place on Thursday, May 2 at about 10AM CST.
