The Overwatch League has been at the forefront of the esports industry when it comes to utilizing strategies used by professional leagues for traditional sports. These esports trading cards will be available for fans to acquire digitally on Upper Deck's e-Pack platform. However, individuals will also have the ability to order physical versions of the digital items that they own if they wish to have an old-school feel to the collectibles.
Wednesday, June 19th will be the day that the first set of these new digital items will release. The first set of the newly announced Overwatch League trading cards will focus on the inaugural season of Blizzard Entertainment's global esports entity for its popular first-person shooter video game. There will be a total of 125 included in this first set that will consist of autographed trading cards and those that show off game-worn jerseys and equipment from official matches.
In addition to the creation of the card memorabilia, the deal between the esports entity and Upper Deck will also feature stickers, sticker books, posters, and other collectible items.
“We are very excited to collaborate with the Overwatch League for our first esports deal and to deliver new and innovative products to Overwatch League fans everywhere,” said Upper Deck president Jason Masherah. “This is a great way to celebrate Upper Deck’s 30th anniversary, and we look forward to working with the talented team at Activision Blizzard for many years to come.”
