How to Farm Tailgems, Clawgems, and Skullgems in Dauntless
By Jeff Kotuby ·
Outside of slaying Behemoths, crafting is the name of the game in Dauntless. It's how you get your most powerful items, after all. Here's how to get some of the most important reagents - Tailgem, Clawgem, and Skullgem.

Monster hunting veterans know how exhausing the grind for monster-based reagents is. Dauntless, unfortunately, is no different, in that it requires players to farm certain items to craft specific gear. You'll no doubt be scratching your neck for more gems - namely Tailgems, Clawgems, and Skullgems. Each comes in an elemental or neutral variety and is used to craft certain items. You'll pick some up during your Patrols and Pursuits, but if you're in desperate need of gems, here's how to get more:
How to Get Elemental and Neutral Tailgems, Clawgems, and Skullgems in Dauntless
Tailgems, Clawgems, and Skullgems are only obtainable from Behemoths who register threat level 8 or higher. Elemental versions drop from Elemental Behemoths and Neutral versions drop from Neutral Behemoths. Luckily, you don't need to worry about farming a specific element, as Elemental gems are universal. The key in getting gems to drop for you is to sever the necessary body part within two minutes of combat. Meaning, if you want a Tailgem, you'd better start working the tail. Clawgems require you to hit the hands and Skullgems require you to smack the Behemoth right in his or her ugly noggin. Note - Hammer users cannot use their favorite weapon to sever the tail, as you can't slice with a blunt object. Switching to a sword or axe will do the trick, though. Neutral Gems are farmed the same way, just on Neutral foes. You won't have any Elemental advantages in those battles, so just bring your best weapons.
Best Ways to Get Gems in Dauntless
To guarantee yourself a Gem, you'll probably want to bring some friends along. You'll also want to ensure you're matching the elemental weakness of the Behemoth you're fighting. If you and your squad all have strong Frost weapons, for example, you'll probably want to beat up on something that's weak to Frost. As we mentioned earlier, if you're in need of Neutral Gems, just bring your best weapon - an extra friend will help do the necessary damage to guarantee a Gem drop. You'll also probably want to farm the weaker Behemoths - Ragetail Gnashers and Firebrand Charroggs are easy enough and are weak to Elements, meaning you can beat them up easy enough with a full team. Lastly, you'll want to bring items that increase your attack damage and speed if possible.
