Team Liquid Looks Like MSI Finalists in Game 1 of LCS Summer
By Wyatt Fossett ·
Unfortunately for TSM, the projected slow start for a tired Team Liquid didn't slow down the MSI Finalists.

All of the headlines heading into Week 1 of the 2019 LCS Summer Split revolved around the new kings of North America, Team Liquid, and whether or not they’d be hung over from their amazing trip through the Mid-Season Invitational. Today, in their first matchup of the new season, Team Liquid looked very much on-point while crushing TSM in a rematch of the 2019 LCS Spring Finals.

Their break was short. In an interview with LCS host Ovilee after the match Team Liquid’s bot-laner Doublelift said that he only had a few days with no League of Legends. That’s a very short amount of time to recoup from a strenuous international tournament, on top of their run in the LCS playoffs.
"I don't even know when the expectations end. I feel like no matter what team I'm on, my team is expected to win. But I think mine... are always constant. It's always to be the best." -@TLDoublelift #TLWIN

In contrast, teams that didn’t make the playoffs in the Spring have been on “vacation” for 2 months and some change. There were 69 calendar days between Week 9 of LCS Spring and Week 1 of LCS Summer. For Team Liquid to get a “few days” off is bonkers.
However, it looks like the amazing display they put on against the world's best competitive League of Legends teams at MSI 2019 is still rolling. Throughout their rather short dissection of TSM today, Team Liquid looked like a team beyond the reach of the LCS’ second-place team.
Perhaps the lack of a break means that Team Liquid didn’t have enough time to reset. That they are still living in the moment that saw Team Liquid destroy the World Champions Invictus Gaming and play in the Grand Finals at an international tournament.
The 2019 LCS Summer Split could be historic for Team Liquid, as they look to become the first team in North American competitive League of Legends to win four domestic titles in a row. After their Week 1 smashing in a potential preview of the finals between them and TSM, the 2nd place team at MSI seems to have picked up speed rather than lost it.
