With the current Halo esports landscape struggling to gain traction in viewership, OpTic Gaming has decided that the investment for maintaining a team is not worth what they were getting in return. Even with professional Halo not as popular as it once was, the organization deciding to release the team has come at a shock to many fans of the Green Wall, as OpTic's Halo team was one of the very best. In less than two years time, the former OpTic Gaming roster of Bradley "Frosty" Bergstrom, Tony "LethuL" Campbell, Mathew "Royal2" Fiorante and Paul "SnakeBite" Duarte finished in the top two of 16 straight events and secured eight championships. This massive success was focused on by the organization in the announcement, as it made the decision a difficult one to make.
"As the esports industry’s landscape is rapidly changing, so too must we constantly evaluate our business strategies against it. We are, of course, justifiably proud of our players’ accomplishments – whether it be gold at the 2017 Halo World Championships and Dreamhack Denver, or the weekly NA 2K Series Cups, and the unprecedented tenure they collectively boast as a team. But as our agenda evolves, we find that our paths must now diverge."
With their recent entry into some of the biggest esports titles in the world, such as League of Legends and Overwatch, OpTic is looking to the future of their organization in the esports industry. With Halo's struggle to grow with the rest of the esports world, OpTic Gaming decided that it was time to part ways with the professional Halo scene.
