The regular comics and movie fare at SDCC 2019 will be joined by a slew of competitive gaming and streaming events.

San Diego Comic-Con is just around the corner, coming up on July 18, 2019. It’s one of the largest events for attendees to geek out on the latest movies, comics, and other media, past, present, and future. There’s bits of gaming here and there at SDCC, but this year, the event is bringing competitive gaming into the mix. Greenlit Content (A branch of ReKT Global) has announced an Esports Lounge with a slew of gaming tournaments, casual play, and live-streaming events set to take place during SDCC 2019.
The Esports Lounge is set to open at the Marriott Marquis Pacific Ballroom starting on Wednesday at 6PM PST, running 10AM to 8PM Thursday through Saturday, and finally 10AM to 5PM Sunday. Microsoft Mixer, HyperX, Alienware and more will be on hand, giving away prizes as tournaments roll out to give attendees a chance to prove their chops. Current tournament games are listed below.
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Tekken 7
- Soul Calibur 6
- Madden 20
- Jump Force
- Marvel vs Capcom Infinite
- Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Injustice 2
There will be also over 80 PCs and Xbox Ones set up for casual play, including all tournament games and also featuring Call of Duty Black Ops 4, Lego: The Hobbit, Lego: Marvel Superheroes, Batman: Arkham Knight, Metal Slug XX, Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 4, Halo Master Chief Collection, Halo 5, DOOM 2016, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, Double Dragon Neon, Fusion Frenzy, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, KoF 98 Ultimate Match, and Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition.
In addition to all the gaming for visitors, Greenlit is teaming up with Mixer and Extra Life to host a charity stream during Comic-Con from the Esports lounge which will feature celebrities and pro players alike, as reported by Mixer's Blog. Proceeds will go to support sick and injured children through Extra Life and the Children’s Miracle Network. The Mixer Livestream will run 10AM to 5PM Thursday through Saturday. The livestream can be seen below when it takes place.
As competitive gaming continues to be a huge part of the gaming community, it’s great to see SDCC embrace it more fully and to see folks like Mixer and Extra Life take advantage of it to do some good. Whether you’re attending or just want to see it when it goes down and make a donation, it looks like San Diego Comic-Con is going to be yet another venue to prove gaming greatness in 2019.
