LCS is Third Largest Sports League Among Young People, Says Riot

It is no secret that League of Legends is the most popular esports title in the world and is now challenging traditional sports league when it comes to grabbing the views of the younger generation. This rise in popularity among conventional sports is ever evident in a new announcement by League of Legends developer Riot Games.

According to the official "2019 LCS Year in Review" post by Riot Games, the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) was the third most popular sports league among 18-34 year olds in the United States.

We don't take a lot of time at the #LCS to celebrate our wins, but 2019 was a pretty good year. Our AMA (123k) makes us the third largest sports league for 18-34 year olds in the US and our Summer Finals added 5.44m in direct economic impact to Detroit. https://t.co/VA9ejeo7oX

With gaming and esports being the main form of entertainment and competition for many individuals in this age range, it is not surprising to see the LCS compete and beat out many of the traditional sports leagues in the United States when it comes to viewership and overall interest.

2019 was a hallmark year for the LCS, and it is highly unlikely that there will be any slowing down by the League of Legends esports scene in 2020. It is highly possible that in a few years that the LCS and other esports leagues will take even more and higher spots when it comes to popularity in the U.S. and around the world.
