Snyder has revealed that he originally intended Darkseid to become the DCEU's ultimate villain, outlining an extensive storyline that would culminate in a massive battle and a future reboot. However, James Gunn, now overseeing the new DC Universe, has ruled out using Darkseid as the primary antagonist, citing similarities to Marvel's Thanos and a shift toward other New Gods stories.
