EA Game is Permanently Shutting Down Later This Month

EA announced that several of its titles will go offline later this month: the original Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends will cease service on August 4, 2026 (the newer Switch 2 version will remain active), and the online servers for NHL 22 and NHL 23 will shut down on August 31, though their offline modes will still function. Sony Says Discontinuation of PlayStation Discs Won't Have Any Negative Impact on Its Business - Now or in the Future

Author: Wesley Yin-Poole

Sony's CFO Lin Tao told investors that ending PlayStation disc production in 2028 is having no measurable impact on the company now and is not expected to hurt its business in the future, as most game sales are already digital. While the decision has sparked a strong backlash from gamers, physical-media advocates and industry groups, Sony says the shift follows consumer trends and will improve margins, since digital sales let it retain a larger share of revenue than physical copies. Analysts believe a reversal is unlikely despite the criticism.
