Fortnite Developers Targeting 4K Resolution for Xbox One X, Not PS4 Pro

With the competition between Microsoft and Sony to draw Fortnite players to their individual consoles, it looks as Epic Games is leaning more towards the Xbox family.

Fortnite has quickly become one of the most popular multiplayer games on both the Xbox One and Playstation 4, as its free price tag and addicting and exciting gameplay has drawn many players into downloading and competing in the popular battle royale title. While the console wars between Microsoft and Sony have always been going on, it has ramped up considerably, as both companies are looking to drive the millions of players who love to play Fortnite onto their consoles. It looks as though Epic Games is going to be siding with Microsoft at the moment, as the developer revealed at this year's Games Developer Conference what console they were targeting to run Fortnite at 4K resolution.
In a presentation focused on optimizing Unreal Engine 4 for Fortnite: Battle Royale, the developers of the massively popular game showed that the Xbox One X is the console they are working on to optimize their game for 4K resolution. Currently the title runs at 900p on the standard Xbox One and 1800p on the Xbox One X, while running at 1080p on both the Playstation 4 and Playstation 4 Pro. Epic Games did not reveal when they plan on having their game running at 4K for the Xbox One X, but it is surprising to see that the Playstation 4 Pro is not a candidate of recieving the graphical upgrade considering it too supports 4K resolution.
While this is nowhere near an official announcement of a partnership between Microsoft and Epic Games, it would not be the first battle royale title that the company has secured a partnership with. The Xbox One is currently the only console that Player Unknowns Battlegrounds is available on, which means a partnership focused on Fortnite would be a major victory for Microsoft in the age old console war that has engulfed the video game industry.
