Ruote Fumanti (Smoking Wheels) is a new Commodore 64 racing game by charger0277 that runs a smooth 50 fps on a stock PAL C64 using only 24 KB of memory, with no expansions required and full compatibility with original hardware, flashcarts and emulators. The title features pixel-by-pixel road scrolling, eight simultaneous sprites, a custom engine, original graphics and a chiptune soundtrack, and delivers a highly stable performance (0.1 % frame-drop rate across 9,600 test frames). Gameplay includes aggressive traffic, environmental hazards such as ice, deep fords and rock ravines, and ends each of its eight stages with a one-on-one police-car showdown.

Real-Time Battles Come To Pokémon Emerald Thanks To New ROM Hack

Author: Brandon Saltalamacchia

A new Pokémon Emerald ROM hack by GBurgardt, released on 11 September, introduces a real-time Arena battle mode where players move, dodge and attack in a side-scroll environment. The mode currently works only for wild encounters and is limited to twelve animated Pokémon (e.g., Charizard, Blastoise, Eevee, Dragonite) with ten basic moves and interactable breakable objects; all other Pokémon use the classic turn-based system. The hack can be downloaded from the developer's GitHub and requires patching an existing Emerald ROM.
