Atari 800XL is Making a Modern Comeback!!

Tim's Tiny Arcade released a new video covering the Atari 800XL's return as a modern hybrid system. The segment focuses on THE 800XL, a full-sized recreation that combines the original computer and console functions. The device is being produced by Retro Games Ltd in partnership with Plaion.

The hybrid unit is available for pre-order at a price of $219.99. Shipping is scheduled for April 23, 2027. The video outlines the specifications and the intended market for retro enthusiasts.

The notion of a comeback echoes other media, such as the HBO series The Comeback, which also explores revival themes. Such cultural references underscore the broader interest in reviving classic entertainment formats.

It emphasizes the limited pre-order window and the upcoming release date.

Tim's Tiny Arcade also compares the new hardware to the original 800XL, highlighting improvements in build quality while retaining the classic aesthetic. The analysis suggests the recreation could appeal to both collectors and new gamers seeking a nostalgic experience.
