GTL: New Tech Allows Gamers to Re-sell Digital Games

As cryptocurrency and blockchain technology continue to develop and draw interest, investors and developers continue to look to these new marketplaces as the future of gaming and economy. On this episode of Game Talk Live, host Mandie Roman discusses the future of cryptocurrency and digital gaming with an expert panel including Malcolm CasSelle of OPSkins.com - Marketplace, Randy Saaf of Lucid Sight, and Rahul Sood of Unikrn

Cryptocurrency has continued to catch the attention of the general public. Even since previous episodes of GTL, hundreds more forms of cryptocurrency options have popped up. How does one decide where to put their investment? Which currencies will outlive the bubble? Guests share their takes with business and experience of cryptocurrencies, as well as making predictions and offering advice as to how to identify a quality cryptocurrency investment and how to avoid scams.

Bitcoin and ethereum are often considered to be the standard for cryptocurrency trading and investment right now. The panel discusses what put these particular markets ahead of the curve, as well as how the market has evolved and followed behind these two bigger systems. This includes consideration of the majority of cryptocurrency outlets and where they fall short of the Bitcoin or Ethereum models.

CryptoKitties is a prime example of a way to gamify the cryptocurrency by adding collectible elements to the economy. The panel observes and comments on how this model works, the pros and cons of it, and how this approach to cryptocurrency changes up the system for better and worse. The panel looks at various forms of these types of gamified economies, how consumers determine the value of these collections, and how they work.

As time goes on, digital games have become an increasingly popular and profitable market in comparison to physical copies of games. Is physical game production dying or does digital game sales still leave something to be desired? The panel considers the state of digital game sales and ownership in comparison to cryptocurrency itself.

Discussion includes how licenses and digital ownership has evolved over time. Guests also speak to the possibility of being able to trade or sell digital ownership the same way consumers are capable of doing with cryptocurrency. Is it possible that we could see digital game trade as its own form of relevant digital currency? Will video game giants like Valve and their Steam eventually embrace this form of economy with their own form of currency?

With the growing interest in blockchain development, is this where the future of gaming lies or will players always care about physical copies? The panel discusses predictions for the future of blockchain games, as well as what it will take for blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies to become mainstream.

"If you’re a fan of a #gamedev studio, you might…the #VR copy, the #PC copy, the #PlayStation copy...so why not have a super deluxe version that’s endorsed by the developer?" -@randysaaf of @LucidsightInc
