Shanghai Dragons Set Record for Longest Losing Streak in Pro Sports
By Nicholas Barth ·
The inaugural season of the Overwatch League has not been a successful venture for the Shanghai Dragons.

The Shanghai Dragons made history for not only the Overwatch League, but also for all major sports leagues last night. However, the record they set in their 3-1 loss to the New York Excelsior was not of a positive nature, as the Shanghai Dragons now own the longest losing streak in the history of professional sports leagues with 29 straight losses. Shanghai edged out the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers' 28 game losing streak that was set back in 2015.

The new record was revealed to the public by Overwatch Manager Kate Mitchell and points to the struggles that the Shanghai Dragons have faced in the first season of the Overwatch League. The team looked to show more promise heading into Stage 3 of the league with a major roster overhaul that saw a group of talented players, such as tank player Kim "Geguri" Se-yeon, be added to the roster. Even with the addition of the new group of players, Shanghai has continued to struggle when it comes to closing out close matches that they have a chance to win at the end, as many of their matches have been very competitive affairs.
The Dragons still have 10 matches left in Stage 4 to avoid going the entire first season of the Overwatch League without a single victory, but with 29 straight losses to begin the team's history in the league, Shanghai has a uphill battle to change the course of their season and put an end to their historic losing streak. Shanghai's next opportunity to end the 29 game losing streak will be against the London Spitfire today at 3:00 PM PST.
