It would appear that Boss Key just hasn't found the success it was looking for. The game developer is closing shop and co-founder and industry legend Cliff Bleszinski is taking temporary leave from the industry.

It would appear that Boss Key Productions, the studio behind recent game releases LawBreakers and Radical Heights, is throwing in the towel. It was abruptly announced today that the studio would be closing shop.

The announcement was made by Boss Key co-founder and industry legend Cliff Bleszinski via his personal Twitter account. In the tweet announcing the closing, Bleszinski also specifies that due to personal troubles, he will also be taking a temporary hiatus from the gaming industry.

Radical Heights came onto the scene fairly recently in a bit of a surprise announcement itself. It's take on the Battle Royale scene was that of an '80s gameshow aesthetic, complete with challenges and over-the-top announcers that reminded of the olden days of Nickelodeon's Double Dare and GUTS, as well as American Gladiator.

Though the game found some early success, even gaining attention from the likes of famed Fortnite Twitch streamer Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, the steam couldn't quite last it seems. The player base fell off in the time following its Steam Early Access release and while Bleszinski still claimed the game was well on its way to success, even he admits it may have been "too little, too late".

Radical Heights came bursting on to the scene with surprise on its side. One day we didn't even know what it was, and the next day it was on Steam Early Access.

Perhaps more surprising is Bleszinski's sudden decision to step away from the gaming scene for the time being as well, but as he has mentioned unfortunate circumstances in his personal life at the moment, it may be for the best.

The Radical Heights servers will remain active for the forseeable future as of this writing, even if Boss Key is unable to continue work on the game.

With its interesting take on the Battle Royale formula, and style and personality oozing from its seams, it's unfortunate that we won't get to see what could have been. That said, it will be interesting to see what Bleszinski brings to the table when he makes his return to the industry.
