RESULTS: Philadelphia Fusion Take down Florida Mayhem in the Overwatch League

Sparks flew in this clash as the Philadelphia Fusion looked to claim another victory over the Florida Mayhem. There can only ever be one victorious team, so here’s a brief breakdown of the series.

The first map, Blizzard World, saw an action packed start for this series. The Fusion took the first attack, and were able to show their skill after capturing the first point and starting the payload. Philadelphia was able to reach the second checkpoint, but found themselves blocked off from the third, as Florida stepped up their defence at the last minute. The attack from Florida was not as successful, as they failed to capture the first point due to the strong Fusion defence. With no ability to progress, Florida was forced to watch as the map win went to Philadelphia.

The second map, Horizon Lunar Colony, was a tough battle for both teams. The Fusion attack was able to bypass the defences from Florida and secure the first point, but they struggled with the second point after Florida regrouped and held the line. The Florida attack was again unsuccessful, as they could not secure the first point at all, leading to a two map lead for Philadelphia.

The third map, Oasis, saw Philadelphia take control of the point early and hold it for the duration of the match. Despite the best efforts from Florida, they could not dislodge the Fusion from the area, allowing the Fusion to take an early lead. The second round was a repeat of the first, with the Fusion once again capturing the point early and holding it for the entire round. Florida could not find an opening to successfully attack, leading to Philadelphia winning the round, map, and series in one fell swoop.

The fourth map, Dorado, was an opportunity for Philadelphia to flex their muscles now that the series was effectively over. The Fusion were able to push the cart through the first two checkpoints with relative ease, and eventually were able to advance the payload through to the end of the course, reaching the final checkpoint to set an ambitious target for Florida to reach. The Florida attack suffered much the same as it had all night, with the team unable to reach the second checkpoint before being stopped by the Fusion. As time ran out, it quickly became apparent that the Florida Mayhem were overwhelmed by the Philadelphia Fusion’s defence, leading to a clean 4-0 sweep.

With the first match concluded, the rest of the teams have been put on notice by Philadelphia’s strong performance. For more on when these teams will clash again, check out the official schedule page, here, and for more Overwatch League action, check out the match recaps from yesterday, here.
