While not an upset per se, the dominant game play from the San Francisco Shock took the Houston Outlaws completely by surprise.

RESULTS: San Francisco Dominate Houston in the Overwatch League

The San Francisco Shock are playing more for pride at this point, and their dominant victory over the Houston Outlaws has shown that there’s still plenty of pride left in the tank. Taking down Houston in a clean 4-0, San Francisco have set the rest of the league on notice that they are not a pushover team regardless of how the standings sit. Here’s a brief breakdown of the series.

The first map, Blizzard World, saw the Shock make their move first. A strong offense allowed them to secure the first point and start advancing the payload. Despite a strong defense from Houston, the Shock were able to reach the second point, and brute force their way onto the third just as the clock ran down. The attack from Houston was less successful, as they struggled to overcome San Francisco’s defense. Though Houston was able to capture the first point, they were blocked off from reaching the second, eliminated time and again as the clock ran down to hand the victory to the Shock.

The second map, Horizon Lunar Colony, was the site of another surprisingly dominant performance from the Shock. Making their attack first San Francisco were quick to capture the first point, and keeping their momentum high, were quick to assault the second point. Though it took some time, San Francisco were able to breach the defense from Houston and capture the second point, ending the round with plenty of time to spare. The attack from Houston was less impressive, as they were repeatedly held up by the San Francisco defense. Try as they might, Houston could not fully breach the defensive line, forced to watch as the clock ran out before they could capture the point.

The third map, Oasis, was the nail in the coffin for this showdown. San Francisco may not have had a perfect first round, but they did claim victory, with Houston only able to secure 46% before being eliminated. The second round was much shorter, as San Francisco captured the zone first and held on for the duration of the match, finally ending after wiping Houston in an explosive final fight.

The fourth map, Dorado, was yet another dominant performance from San Francisco, refusing to slow down even with the victory already assured. The Shock made their attack first, and though Houston’s defense was strong, it wasn’t strong enough to prevent San Francisco from reaching the first checkpoint. Keeping their eyes on the prize, the Shock slowly but surely made their way through the map, reaching the second checkpoint after more running battles, before finally reaching the end of the course in overtime, to set an impressive target for Houston to reach. The attack from the Outlaws was much less successful, as they found themselves caught in bottlenecks time and again. As the clock ran down, Houston proved unable to reach the first checkpoint, handing the victory to San Francisco in what was an unexpected but not un-enjoyed showdown.
