RESULTS: London Spitfire Claim Narrow Victory over Seoul Dynasty

As the last day of week two kicks off, the London Spitfire have managed to claim a narrow victory over the Seoul Dynasty in a showdown that went all the way to a tie-breaker game five. Here’s a brief breakdown of the series.

The first map, King’s Row, saw Seoul make their attack first. Despite facing an incredible defence from London, the Dynasty were able to eventually capture the first checkpoint and begin moving the payload through the map. London’s defence did regroup on the approach to the second checkpoint, and were finally able to halt the progress of Seoul long enough for the time to run down, setting a benchmark for themselves to reach. The attack from London was less successful than their opponents, as they faced an almost impenetrable wall with Seoul keeping them off the point for the most part. Using the entire time available to them, London could still not secure the first point, handing Seoul the first map win of the series.

The second map, Hanamura, saw something of a turnaround for both teams. Seoul’s initial attack was completely ineffective, as they failed to breach the defence of London and get on the point at all, setting an easy win condition for their opponents. The attack from London did not take long to reach its mark, as they took advantage of excellent positioning to take down Seoul and flow onto the point, reaching the required capture percentage with plenty of time remaining.

The third map, Lijiang Tower, was once more a London showcase. The first round went to London, as Seoul could only accumulate 51% capture before being forced back. The second round was very similar to the first, as London once more claimed victory with Seoul only able to capture 46% of the zone before being eliminated and forced back.

The fourth map, Watchpoint: Gibraltar, was an extremely close battle between these two teams. Seoul’s first attack was very successful, advancing the payload through the checkpoints after overcoming London’s defensive lie multiple times. Though it took some time, Seoul was able to reach the end of the map, setting a difficult task for their opponents to match. The attack from London was likewise successful, as they too were able to defeat the resistance of their opponents and push the payload through the map. London was also able to reach the end of the map, setting up an overtime showdown between these two teams. London took their second attack first, and after facing a difficult battle, were not able to reach the first checkpoint with the time they had remaining. The second attack from Seoul faced similar difficulties, though Seoul was able to overcome them enough to push the payload the required distance, setting up a game five tie-breaker.

The fifth and final map, Nepal, saw the eventual collapse of the Seoul Dynasty. The first round went to London, after they secured the point first and held it for the duration of the round. The second round was much closer, with both teams spending a significant amount of time in control of the zone. Seoul came close to winning the round, reaching 99% before losing control, though London were able to prevail, securing the zone and holding off Seoul long enough to claim the victory.
