GTL: Rumors Swirl In The Gaming Industry As E3 Approaches

As E3 approaches, the gaming industry turns into a maelstrom of rumors and hype. This Game Talk Live dives deep into the rumor mill as well as what we know so far. Host Mandie Roman is joined by an expert panel of guests including Former PR Director and GameTrailers.com's The Annoyed Gamer Marcus Beer, Gamespot launcher and IGN Co-Founder Tal Blevins, and Machinima Host and Producer and Co-Founder of Voyager VR Jessica Villarreal

E3 has evolved heavily since its first conference in 1995. Just last year, E3 opened up to the public with tickets available for attendance. Guests explore their memories of their first E3 experiences, as well as their interpretation of how the show has evolved since their first attendance of the event. The panel also debates whether or not E3 has become better or worse in its current state today.

As certain companies have grown, they have found ways to conduct business and get the word out on their products out ahead of and outside of the regular convention center venue. The panel discusses how Microsoft, EA, and other companies have worked to circumvent the crowds of E3 and rise above the noise of the show, placating media while still allowing the public to attend.

"I think @E3, in its current form, is heading towards the disaster days of 2007, [which was] hands down the worst #E3 ever...The public's got no place at E3." -@AnnoyedGamer

On May 29, Bethesda launched a stream that caught the attentions of over 100,000 viewers, which eventually lead into the teaser for new title Fallout 76. The Pokemon Company also had a surprise press conference that ended with the announcement of several new Pokemon games. To this matter, discussion covers whether E3 is all that necessary.

Guests consider what E3 has going for it, including hands-on time with games, interviews, and getting certain messages out as exclusive announcements. Also considered is the helpful note of getting announcements out of the way with reveals like Fallout 76, allowing for a more streamlined approach to coverage of new things about the games at the show.

Speaking of Fallout 76, it would appear that Bethesda is getting ready to make Fallout 76 a new online-only experience. The panel speculates as to what exactly an "online-only Fallout" experience would be. With the Battle Royale genre sweeping the game industry, debate covers whether or not Bethesda will follow suit or make Fallout 76 a different type of online game.

More over, the panel discusses Kingdom Hearts 3 and whether or not it will get an actual release date in the coming weeks. Having been released in 2013, the lid on Kingdom Hearts 3 has been very tight. The panel discusses how long Square Enix will wait to reveal substantial information about the game and how it will go.
