Golden Guardians Take Down Team Liquid in the NA LCS

It was expected that there would be unusual results coming out of the pro scene in the first few weeks, with various teams spending their time practicing, and the recent changes to the Meta allowing Champions to find homes that we never would have predicted. With the caliber of the players competing in the NA LCS, we shouldn’t be too surprised to see an upset here or there, however it was the scale of this particular upset that makes it so surprising, with the team ranked at the bottom of the NA LCS during the Spring Split taking down the defending champions in an extremely convincing fashion. Here’s a brief look at what transpired.

The game got off to a bloody start, as the Golden Guardians wasted no time in attempting to shut down Team Liquids bot lane. Continuing to focus their attention south of the border, the Golden Guardians repeatedly secured neutral objectives and kills as they looked to maintain their slim lead in this match. Team Liquid were able to pick up some kills and even objectives during this time, however the lions share would go to the Golden Guardians as they continued their relentless assault.

The small lead the Golden Guardians cultivated for the first 15 minutes of the game soon blossomed at around the 18 minute mark, when they surged to take down multiple objectives in rapid succession. Looking to breach the base of Team Liquid at around the 20 minute mark, a massive and prolonged team fight broke out that saw the Golden Guardians take down three turrets, two inhibitors, and kill members of Team Liquid seven times before they were finally able to close out the match.

If this is the kind of League of Legends we can expect to see more of, then this may truly be the most exciting, and unpredictable, Meta we’ve seen in some time.
