North American LCS Match Recaps For Week 1, Day 1

We’re back with the NA LCS, as the Summer Split kicks off with a bang. We’ve already seen that the teams from the EU LCS are more than happy to change things up and embrace the new Meta, but are the teams from North America also prepared to mix it up, or are they still stuck in their old ways. Here’s a brief breakdown of the games from the first day of the NA LCS Summer Split.

100 Thieves vs Team Liquid

The first match of the NA LCS Summer Split is a rematch from the Spring Split finals, with 100T Taking on TL once again. The recent changes to the Meta may have encouraged some teams to try new things, but TL seemed confident in their ability to perform without relying too heavily on bruiser bot lanes and unorthodox compositions. In the end, the superior teamwork of Team Liquid prevailed, as they cruised through to claim their first victory of the NA LCS.

TSM vs CLG

Another clash of long-time rivals TSM and CLG would see both teams opting for a fairly straightforward team composition, perhaps a sign that the NA LCS isn’t as invested in trying new things as fans might have hoped. Somehow managing to let the game reach over 40 minutes, TSM finally overcome the defences of CLG to claim their first victory of the Summer Split, a better start than they experienced in Spring.

Clutch Gaming vs Cloud9

Cloud9’s decision to swap some of their star players with their academy team doesn’t seem to be paying off just yet, with both their academy team and their LCS team struggling to find victory. Clutch Gaming had almost free reign over the map in this clash, as they repeatedly manipulated waves and vision to maintain control over the neutral objectives and take down their opponents.

Flyquest vs Echo Fox

We’ve already covered the shenanigans of the Echo Fox squad today, but suffice to say that this was not a game to miss. Pulling something new is the name of the game, and Echo Fox is once again looking to position themselves at the top of the ladder.

Golden Guardians vs OpTic Gaming

Not quite as long as the TSM / CLG clash, this match nevertheless seemed to extend beyond what would have been natural finishing points for other teams. With neither team willing to roll over and quit, the battles turned fierce and deadly, as both teams sought better positioning on the map in anticipation of the final battle that would allow them to end the game it took some time, but OpTic were able to make that fight happen, sealing the deal and claiming their first victory for the Summer Split.

That’s the games from Day 1 of Week 1 in the NA LCS Summer Split all wrapped up now. For more on when these teams will be playing again, check out the official schedule page, here.
