Los Angeles Valiant Win the Overwatch League Stage 4 Finals

After a long days’ worth of matches, the Grand Final between the New York Excelsior and the Los Angeles Valiant proved that the teams still had plenty of gas in the tank. The showdown between the top two teams in the Overwatch league was an electric finish to both Stage 4, and the Overwatch League regular season as a whole. Here’s a brief breakdown of the series.

The first map, Dorado, saw the Valiant prevent New York from reaching the first checkpoint after a running battle that lasted the entire round. When it came time for the Valiant to attack, their offence proved to be too strong, as they easily reached the required distance with minutes to spare as they looked for an early finish to the day.

The second map, Hanamura, was an opportunity for revenge on the part of New York, as they had the opportunity to showcase their strength on a map that they have become quite comfortable on over the course of the season. Securing the first point easily enough, New York was ultimately prevented from capturing the second point entirely, however it still presented a daunting task for the LA squad. The attack from the Valiant was ineffective from the get go, as they were caught out of position multiple times and finished the round only partially securing the first checkpoint.

With the map scores now level, the series had effectively become a best-of-three, starting on the third map, Oasis. The first round was close, with Los Angeles claiming victory despite New York managing to reach 99% overall. The second round was less competitive, as New York could only secure 36% before Los Angeles claimed their second victory, and set up match point heading into map four.

The fourth map, Blizzard World, was a disaster for New York. The Los Angeles Valiant managed to full hold New York on the first point, preventing them from claiming anything as the clock slowly ran down. When it came time for the Valiant to make their attack, they could sense the blood in the water as they thrashed New York before launching themselves onto a commanding position. Try as they might, New York could not retake the point, and the Valiant would close out the round, map, and series to claim victory in the Stage 4 Finals.

With the finals wrapped up, all that’s left is the overall season playoffs, kicking off later in July.
