The Overwatch League Playoff Teams Are Locked and Loaded
By Zac Cameron ·
The teams that will be competing in the Overwatch League's Inaugural Season Playoffs have been determined, and the matches are scheduled.
It’s been a long season for the Overwatch league, with 12 teams coming together to battle for the right to be crowned the best team in the world. Of those 12 teams, only six will be advancing to the playoff stage, as determined by the rankings they accrued during the regular season. The teams that will be competing in the Season Playoffs are Pacific Division Champions the Los Angeles Valiant and Atlantic Division Champions New York Excelsior, as well as the Boston Uprising, Los Angeles Gladiators, London Spitfire, and Philadelphia Fusion.
As the Division Champions, the Los Angeles Valiant and the New York Excelsior will receive an automatic first round bye, placing them straight into the semi-final matches. The Boston Uprising will take on the Philadelphia Fusion, and the Los Angeles Gladiators will take on the London Spitfire, to see who else will advance. Each series is a best-of-three match, and each match itself is a best-of-five maps, so we could potentially see up to 15 maps between the competitors as they battle for a spot in the finals.
The first Quarterfinal match will be between Boston and Philadelphia, and will take place on July 11th at 5pm PDT. The second clash will be on July 13th at 5pm PDT, with a potential third battle later that same day, at 7pm PDT. The second Quarterfinal match will be between Los Angeles and London on July 11th at 7pm PDT, with the second clash on July 14th at 1pm PDT, and a third battle if needed later that day at 3pm PDT.
The Grand Finals themselves will take place on July 27th and 28th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, with the winner ultimately walking away with $1,000,000 in prize money along with the crown as the first Overwatch League Champion.
