By Nicholas Barth ·
Toronto esports fans have finally gotten a loot at the official name and branding of the new Toronto Overwatch League team.

There has plenty of news this week regarding a few of the new eight teams that will be making their debuts in Season 2 of the Overwatch League. From the Paris Overwatch League team announcing its roster and the Atlanta franchise revealing its official name and branding to the new Toronto Overwatch League team announcing its name and branding to be the Toronto Defiant.
The announcement of the Toronto Defiant officially being the name and branding for the Canadian franchise came on Wednesday, October 24th. However, Toronto Defiant is not what some fans were expecting to see, as an image pointing to the franchise being named the Toronto Venom had been making its way around social media before the official reveal of the new Toronto Overwatch League team name and branding.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating the launch of the Toronto Defiant today in the best way we know how, side-by-side with our fans,” said Chris Overholt, President and CEO, OverActive Media Group Inc. “We have a clear vision to build a world-class professional esports company in Toronto that will excite and inspire a new generation of fans in our market, across Canada, and around the globe."
Defiant was chosen to be the name of the franchise in order to represent the "strength, character, and resiliency of Toronto" with the color scheme for the organization featuring red, black, white and grey. The new Toronto Defiant Overwatch League team will be led by veteran esports industry organization Splyce who has seen a great deal of success in other first person shooter titles, such as Halo and Call of Duty.
“Having the support and tremendous expertise of Splyce on our side means that the Defiant will be surrounded by some of the best in the business. Marty and his team have assembled an impressive management team. We are all looking forward to seeing all the pieces coming together and putting forward a competitive team as we near the start of the Overwatch season,” said Overholt.
Marty "Lazerchicken" Strenczewilk (CEO) and Kyle "Novo" McKitrick (Splyce General Manager) have led the creation of the new Overwatch League team. Operations of the Toronto Defiant will be led by Jaesun "Jae" Won (General Manager) who will have a championship level coaching roster that includes Beoumjun "Bishop" Lee (Head Coach), Yun "Bubbly" Ho Cho (assistant coach), Dongwook "Don" Kim (strategic coach) and Dennis "Barroi" Matz (analyst) at his side.
